The day you died

It was today twenty two years ago
when you were at your lowest low
you had no energy left to fight
and chose instead to take your life

It was Sunday morning at half past eight
when the nurses found you in a bad state
broken, breathing and heart still beating
you died in their arms, your body bleeding

I wish I had been there for you
to wish you well and say adieu
I wish you’d never left
I’m lonely and bereft
